THORNBURY

YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB The fourth annual meeting of the Thornbury Young Farmers’ Club was held in the Thornbury hall, Mr James Ronald presiding over an attendance of 15 members. After the reading of the annual report and balance-sheet, which, showed a credit balance of £5 18/10, Mr J. Fallow congratulated the club on its splendid year and also expressed approval of the satisfactory manner in which the meetings of the past year had been conducted. Mention was made of the work of the secretary, Mr O. Fallow, who had won a scholarship which had taken him to Lincoln College. Mr Fallow would be greatly missed, said the speaker, but he was quite sure that it was the wish

of the meeting that Mr Fallow should succeed in his new sphere. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr J. Linscott; assistant advisory presidents, Messrs F. Wholers and G. Carmichael; chairman, Mr John Beggs; honorary secretary, Mr K. McKenzie; treasurer; Mr J. Ronald; auditor, Mr R. Buchanan; Press reporter, Mr C. Pankhurst.

Mr W. L. Harbord of the Department of Agriculture spoke about the tour of the North Island to be held in May and also the three-day agricultural short course for young farmers to be held at Gore during April. It was decided that meetings should be held on the same night as last year and a motion was passed that Mr E. Thomas, of Invercargill, be asked to deliver an address on “Why Young Men should join the Young Farmers’ Clubs” at the next meeting on April 12. Following the decision to hold a social and dance on April 14 Messrs D. Fallow, M. Fallow and J. Ronald were elected to the social committee.
