CONCERT AND DANCE IN WOOLSHED PLAY GIVEN BY SCHOOL CHILDREN An enjoyable concert and dance to aid the Wilden school was held at Mr N. Hay’s woolshed, Moa Flat. There was a very big attendance and a good entertainment was given, items being given between the dances. The floor was in good condition for dancing and the shed was decorated with greenery, flowers, streamers and balloons. A school play and drill items were given by the school children. Recitations were given by J. Weatherall, Helen Gibson and R. Hay, Mrs McEvoy and Mrs Hay and Messrs Sutton, A. Nicolson, McKenzie and McCorkindale sang songs. The accompaniments were played by Miss Power, Mr Jan Nicholson, Mr O’Connor, Mr Ross and the McKenzie trio (Dusky). Mr L. Brensell was master of ceremonies.

mittee thanked Miss Power and all others who had helped to make the concert such a success. BAND CONCERT There was only a moderate attendance at the concert given in the Tapanui Town Hall by the Gore Municipal Brass Band in aid of the funds of the Tapanui Band. An excellent programme was given bv the band, which played instrumental music. Gore performers who gave items were Mrs J. Cooper, songs; Mr D. Young, pianoaccordion selections; Mr T. Grainger, songs, and Mr E. Sopp. Mr J. L. Wylie thanked the Gore Band and performers for their kindness in holding this concert to help the Tapanui Band. He regretted that the attendance was not so big as it should have been and urged the public to support the band. Mr E. Eastwood, Gore drum major, replied.

VISITORS FROM INDIA Visitors from India to the district

are Mr and Mrs C. T. Congieve, accompanied by an Indian servant, who are spending a holiday, fishing the Pomahaka river near Conical Hill. SWIMMING SPORTS Swimming sports were held by the Tapanui District High School at the local baths, but because of a cold wind the programme was not completed. The girls’ championship, boys’ 100 yards and school relay events were postponed. There was a big attendance of the public. Close and interesting finishes in some of the events were seen. The head master, Mr C. Kibblewhite, thanked the public for their patronage of the sports and Mr Bannatyne and Mr Angus for their assistance, which was much appreciated by the school staff.

The championship cup, given by Mr J. S. Varcoe, was won by E. W. Kibblewhite, the runner-up being L. Brady.

Sim, of the leasehold property at Manse Bush, Tapanui, comprising 44 acres, from Mr James Ruff to Mr S. Sinclair. VISIT TO LODGE An official visit was paid by members of the Otago provincial district executive to the Loyal Tapanui Lodge at a special meeting recently. Delegates were appointed to the annual district meeting to be held in Dunedin. The Provincial G.M. (Bro. W. Sellars) accepted on behalf of the lodge a f’-amed photograph of the late Bro. Thomas Jenkins, a pioneer member of tne lodge and also a photograph of his seven sons, all members of the Tapanui Lodge. P.P.G.M. Bro. P. W. Stabb gave an instructive talk on social security. i
