MEN QUALIFYING FOR AGE BENEFIT

WORK TO BE PROVIDED UNTIL APRIL 14 (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 30. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) announced today that to overcome the difficulty of men aged 60 years who, qualifying for the age benefit, will have no income between April 1 and 23, it has been decided to provide work until April 14 for those men with no other income during that period. This means that the age benefit for April will be payable on April 23. Mr Savage adds that there is no bar to their accepting ordinary employment instead of the age benefit or to supplementing the age benefit by the amount of allowable income. The Government will also instruct placement officers to assist them in obtaining employment.
