“FOURTH FORM AT ST. PERCY’S”
DISAPPROVAL OF WOMEN’S DIVISION (United Press Association) TIMARU, March 21. Disapproval of the broadcasting of such serial recordings as “The Fourth Form at St. Percy’s” because they are detrimental to the correct speech and discipline of children was expressed at a conference of the North Canterbury, Mid-Canterbury and South Canterbury executive committees of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at Timaru today. The conference also agreed to urge the Government to adopt a more liberal policy towards the admission of a selected number of refugees from Europe into New Zealand. A further remit carried was that, because of the difficulty of securing domestic help in the country, the import restrictions on electric and other labour saving devices be removed and prices modified.
The conference also urged the abolition of hospital rates, contending that the hospitals should be wholly maintained from the Social Security Fund.
