LIQUOR SUPPLIED TO NATIVES
EUROPEANS CHARGED AT WHAKATANE (United Press Association) WHAKATANE, February 9. Evidence given in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court in the case in which Europeans were charged with supplying liquor to native women -was referred to in a statement made by Mr H. A. Horrocks, managing director of the Whakatane Paper Mills Ltd., tonight. “The residence or hostel where this party was held happens to adjoin the paper mills property,” said Mr Horrocks, “but we had no jurisdiction over it, and the management of the paper mills is not in any way responsible for the conduct of this accommodation house. It is not on our property at all, but on the adjoining property owned by the old Flax Mills Company.” When this statement was referred to the Whakatane police they confirmed it.
