Moderate Temperatures
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 6.
Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to fresh westerly winds prevailing. Weather fair to fine, with moderate temperatures. Sea rather rough, but decreasing. Following is the Dominion forecast:—Weather for the most part fair, but with considerable low cloud and. in places, fog, accompanied in some
localities by drizzling rain. Tem-
peratures moderate to cool. General Situation.—The recent depression is now centred near the Chatham Islands, where the pressure is low. An anti-cyclone covers the western Tasman and is moving eastward.
Winds.—South-west to southerly, strong at first in some exposed positions, especially in the South Island, but decreasing and for the most part light to moderate. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough at first on the west coast and in the far south, but decreasing gradually and elsewhere slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate southerly winds, later turning west and north-west in the southern portion: seas slight to moderate.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was unsettled. Heavy showers fell at intervals throughout the day and there was a cold south-westerly wind. At one o’clock this morning the weather was cold and heavy rain was falling.
