NEW ZEALAND SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS
REQUEST BY SOUTHLAND CENTRE REFUSED
Advice from the Auckland Surf Association that it could not nt this stage possibly comply with the request of the Southland Swimming Association to set back the dates of the New Zealand surf championships was received at the meeting of the executive of the Southland centre last night. It was decided to write to the Bay of Plenty Centre thanking it for the kindness and hospitality extended to the Southland team at the junior and intermediate championship meeting at Rotorua. The dates for the regaining Southland championships were fixed as follows:—Wednesday, February 8, 400 metres men’s backstroke and 200 metres women’s backstroke; Thursday, February 9, 220 yards women’s freestyle and 880 yards men’s freestyle. These events will begin at 5.45 o’clock each evening. Progress reports were received from various committees about the New Zealand national championship meeting at Invercargill. There were present Messrs A. E. McGrath (chairman), A. J. Kingsland, C. Kirkland, G. Rask, F. A. Webb, G. Westerby and the assistant secretary (Mr T. McKenzie).
