COUNTRY QUOTA
INVESTIGATION TO BE MADE
NO ARRANGEMENTS SO FAR
(United Press Association)
WELLINGTON, February 1. The intention of the Government to ascertain the effect of the operation of the country quota in parliamentary elections was referred to by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) when asked tonight if any action about the quota were contemplated. Mr Savage said he wanted to find out how the country quota affected the country as a whole. “I said during the election campaign that no alteration would be made in the electoral law until a full investigation had been made,” lie said. “That investigation will be made some time, but no arrangements have been made for it so far. It is a question of finding out how the country quota operates. All we want to do is to ascertain how it affects voters generally.”
