CIVIL SERVICE BAN LIFTED

WOMEN ON DOMINIONS AND COLONIAL STAFFS (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received December 15, 7.50 p.m.) LONDON, December 15. The ban on women joining the administrative staffs of the Dominions Office and the Colonial Office is being lifted experimentally. The Secretary for the Dominions and Colonies (Mr Malcolm MacDonald) announced in the House of Commons that a few posts would be available each year, subject to examination. The Civil Service Association explains that the posts have hitherto been limited to men because of the possibility of duties in isolated spots unsuitable for women. This argument no longer applies, as women doctors, nurses and others go abroad to lonely places.
