W.E.A. CONFERENCE
GROWTH OF MOVEMENT TRACED (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 15. The Dominion conference of the Workers Educational Association opened this morning with welcoming speeches to representatives by the Postmaster General (the Hon. JJ. Jones), the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) and the vice-chancellor of the University (Mr L. D. Ritchie). The conference, presided over by Mr H. D. Acland, of Christchurch, will confer on questions which are mainly domestic, particularly the association’s relation to the Council of Adult Education. , , ■ Mr Jones in tracing the growth of the movement, stated that, there were 429 members enrolled at its formation, in 1915, but this year the number taking courses was 6349. Much had been achieved during this year. Grants had been restored by the Government and increased by £2OOO.
