OUTING FOR ELDERLY PERSONS

AFTERNOON SPENT AT WYNDHAM A second successful outing for old and infirm persons was conducted by the Gore Rotary Club and the Gore Ministers’ Association on Saturday. Last year a function was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. E. Davey, of Wyndham, and this year Mrs Davey renewed her invitation to the party to spend an afternoon at her home. More than 30 motor-cars travelled from Gore. On their arrival at Wyndham the visitors were welcomed by Mrs Davey. Members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union provided seating accommodation on the lawn and also provided afternoon tea for the visitors.

During the afternoon Mr W. D. Shelton expressed the appreciation of the Rotary Club and the Ministers’ Association at such a splendid turn-out of more than 100 persons. All the work had not been done at the Gore end, said Mr Shelton. The women of Wyndham had ably assisted in providing afternoon tea and they deserved high praise. Mr A. Martin expressed on behalf of the visitors their delight at the outing provided. The return journey was made by the east side of the Mataura river and some cars went through the Tuturau district. A visit was also made to the Maori memorial.
