INCREASE IN EMPIRE POPULATION
AUSTRALIA THE WEALTHIEST DOMINION LONDON, November 23. The statistical abstract for the British Empire, published by the Board of Trade, shows that the Empire population is nearly 500,000,000, representing an increase of 80,000 since 1911. After the United Kingdom, with a public revenue of £948,700,000, Australia is the wealthiest country in the Empire, with £191,900,000, then comes Canada with £104,900,000 and New Zealand with £36,100,000. WORLD POPULATION GROWS BY 18,000,000 (Independent Cable Service) GENEVA, November 23. The Bulletin of Statistics issued by the League of Nations gives the world’s population at the end of 1937 as 2,134,000,000, representing an increase of 18,000,000 during the year.
