ALTERATIONS TO SCHOOL
DEPUTATION TO WAIT ON BOARD NO PRIZES AT END OF YEAR In an effort to complete the arrangements for the improvement of the school and its grounds, a deputation from the Bluff School Committee will wait on the Southland Education Board, probably at its next meeting. This decision was made at the monthly meeting of the committee when the question of putting the proposals for improvement into effect was raised. The profiosed alterations include ther remodeling and extension of the school buildings, the acquisition of additional land adjoining the present area and the sealing and general improvement of the school grounds. There were present: Messrs F. H. Pearce (chairman), N. Anderson, D. E. S. Mason, O. F. Metzger, E. McKenzie, J. Williamson, H. A. Ferguson and H. Jamieson. The holding of the school concert was discussed and it was decided that final arrangements be left until the next meeting. A decision to abandon the practice of giving prizes at the end of the school year was made. The committee had already set aside £lO towards the establishment of a library, it was stated, and as it was considered more advantageous to have a library for the benefit of school children than to issue prizes, the money should be given to this project. It was decided to give another £lO for the purpose of establishing a library. The head master (Mr J. W. Lopdell) reported that the roll number stood at 325 at present. Gratification was expressed by members at the satisfactory report of the on the work of the school during the year. A gift of a hand-bell was received from Mr W. T. Walker. It was decided that Mr Walker be thanked for the gift.
