DISTRICT SCHOOLS ANNUAL PICNIC AT COLAC BAY A decision to hold the annual school picnic at Colac Bay on February 8 was reached at a meeting of delegates from the combined schools of the Central District. The meeting was held at Winton and it was also decided, in addition t<" the usual distribution of fruit on the outward journey, to organize a programme of novelty events during the afternoon. GORE GOLF About 20 members of the Gore Men’s Golf Club took part in a Stableford match on the Croydon links in ideal weather. The match was won by G. D. Caldwell, whose score was 17-4-21. N. Young was runner-up with 14-51-19J. PERSONAL , Mr J. Haigh, Government meat inspector at the Gore abattoirs, has received notice of his transfer to Nelson. He will be succeeded at Gore by Mr D. Young, of Palmerston North. During his stay at Gore and Mataura Mr Haigh has taken a prominent part in bowling activities. He has been a playing member oi the Gore Club for a number of years and is president of the club. When at Mataura he was for a number' of years secretary of the Eastern Southland Bowling SubCentre.
