STATE’S ECONOMIC PLANS

RADIO ADDRESSES BY LABOUR LEADERS 0 _ INVITATION SUGGESTED BY MR SAVAGE (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 23. The quarterly meeting of the National Council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour was continued in Wellington today. It will resume tomorrow morning and probably continue till Friday night. The national secretary (Mr F. D. Cornwell) in a statement tonight said a deputation from the meeting had discussed policy questions and industrial affairs generally with a number of Ministers. Asked whether any representations would be made on the subject of the Court of Arbitration, Mr Cornwell said there would not. The Court was due in Wellington on December 9 and was expected to clear up the greater part of its work here before Christmas. Any further consideration of the position would be deferred till next year. In his address to the conference on the opening day the Prime Minister (the Rt Hon. M. J. Savage) said it was probable he would invite representatives of the industrial labour movement to speak to the workers over the national radio network about the Government’s plans for new economic development. Mr Cornwell said tonight that actually this question had been under consideration by the federation for some time and it had already prepared a statement of its attitude and sent it to the broadcasting authorities. If the national president of the federation, Mr A. McLagan, Were in Wellington at the time he would make a broadcast on behalf of the federation.
