CONVICTS LEAVE FOR DEVIL’S ISLAND

PARIS, November 23. The La Martiniere sailed for Devil’s Island today. The convicts were embarked without incident.

Last Sunday a shipment of 738 convicts from the island of St. Martiniere, due to sail for Guiana, refused to enter two tugs bound for the convict ship La Martiniere and began fighting among themselves. Two men’s eyes were knocked out, two others’ ears were bitten off and 16 others were injured. Reinforcements were despatched from La Rochelle. •
