TODAY’S FIELDS FOR FORBURY

Southland Team Engaged MAZAIRE A LIKELY IMPROVER INTEREST IN FORM OF FINE ART Recent rain will have left the track at Forbury Park on the heavy side for the opening of the spring meeting of the club today, but the track dries very quickly and the weather has only to remain fine for it to provide good going for the latter part of the meeting. Southland stables are not usually strongly represented at the spring meeting at Forbury and this year’s contingent is no larger than in other years. Only a few Southland horses are engaged and of their number Roan Duke is the only one so far this season

to have shown winning form. The fields, although not strong numerically, are of good class and a keen day’s sport is almost certain to be provided. Morello and Logan Derby, two of the best pacers to race at the recent Cup carnival at Addington, hold their places as the favourites-in the two principal events but if a heavy track is encountered it may upset calculations. Morello has already shown that he is not able to race on a greasy surface and has failed under such conditions more than once. Logan Derby has not yet been asked to race on anything but a fast track in New Zealand but he is just the type who may be at home under all conditions. The following horses are in form:— ROSLYN TRIAL HANDICAP: Escalade, Bon Chance, Syntax. ST. KILDA HANDICAP: Bill B, Icevus, Token. PROGRESSIVE HANDICAP:, Mazaire, Glenholme, Marfax. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP: Logan Derby, Morello, Renown’s Best. SPRING HANDICAP: Quest, Wee Potts, Stamboul.
