KEEN CUP RACE PROMISED

Today’s Invercargill Fields OASIS A LIVELY IMPROVER The spring meeting of the Invercargill Trotting Club will be held today when an interesting programme of events will come up for decision. Although not unwieldy, the fields are of good average strength, and with the promise of fine weather, the meeting should be held under the best of conditions. The club will use its new track for the first time and it is likely to be responsible for much faster time performances than is usually the case at Invercargill. The Invercargill Cup, the chief event of the afternoon, has been keenly discussed and a good betting pool is almost certain to result. Voloma, a great little race mare, is set to concede the Cup field upwards of 60 yards, and while it is no easy task she is almost certain to be one of the favourites. Voloma is one of the best pacers raced in Southland for some years, and- she is now on a mark which gives her very little scope among Southland fields. A further success for the Adioo Guy marp will probably mean that she will not be raced again in Southland, as she will start from a prohibitive mark in classes in these parts. Roan Duke, Blue Spark, Salalon and Coherto are others quite capable of making a great race of it with the back-marker. The win-and-nlace system of betting will operate and the first race will start at 12.45 p.m. The following horses are in form:

NOVICE HANDICAP: Dunalister, Kentucky Sun, Flash Guy. MONOWAI HANDICAP: Indian Scout, Lady Ede, Gold Weed. THOMSON HANDICAP: Oasis, Gold Bank, Sydney Grand. INVERCARGILL CUP: Voloma, Roan Duke, Blue Spark.
