MAUNGANUI DEPARTS FROM BLUFF
ARRIVAL AT MELBOURNE ON MONDAY The Union Company’s trans-Tasman passenger liner Maunganui left Bluff yesterday afternoon for Melbourne on its first outward trip in the WellingtonSouth Island-Melbourne summer service. The vessel is to arrive at Melbourne on Monday. The Maunganui carried 180 passengers, many of whom embarked at Bluff. The sailing provides an opportunity for racing enthusiasts to see the Melbourne Cup, which will be run on Tuesday. If the weather permits the ship will call at Milford Sound. Among the passengers are 20 New Zealanders who will make a sightseeing tour of Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales. The tour will be conducted personally by Mr W. J. Heslehurst, the organizer, and the party will return to Wellington on November 28 by the Awatea. This will be the fifth tour of this nature that Mr Heslehurst has conducted.
The following passengers boarded the vessel at Bluff:—
First class.—Mr R. A. Wallis, Mrs L. J. Clapp, Mr E. C. Govan, Mr G. Lawrence, Miss E. Lawrence, Mr W. Ritchie, Mr and Mrs J. A. C. Bain.
Cabin class.—Mrs M. Smith, Mrs A. Bremer, Mrs N. Mackay, Mrs L. Richards, Mr and Mrs J. P. Kitchen and three children; Mrs J. P. Jensen, Mrs E. W. Morrah, Mrs S. E. Harris, Mr and Mrs C. A. Sorrell. Third class.—Mrs M. Marr.
