FOXLOVE AND BOW STREET WIN AGAIN
BALLAD’S SURPRISE IN STRONG SPRINT FIELD
The Gore Racing Club was again favoured with ideal weather for the second day of its spring meeting yesterday, and the racing was held under the best possible conditions. . Again the racing was of a high standard and both from a racing and financial point of view the meeting was an unqualified success. Favourites' did not succeed as consistently as on the first day while two winners, Gipsy Fair and Ballad, returned win dividends approaching a score and a third of a century respectively. The Invercargill trainer, F. W. Ellis, who produced three winners on the opening day, again led in two winners, Bow Street and Foxlove, making his total five for the two days. Sev-. eral newcomers added interest to the day’s racing, but for the most part the first day’s form worked out well. Valantua, who won the Spring Handicap, like Milford, the principal winner the first day, is engaged in the New Zealand Cup. Both the gate receipts and the totalizator turnover showed increases,, over last year’s figures.
