MARRIAGE LOANS IN BRITAIN URGED

BABIES TO WIPE OFF DEBT LONDON, October 12. Doctors, clergymen and society leaders are drafting a scheme intended to enable Britain to compete in encouraging increased population with Italy and Germany. It includes loans of £2OO to married couples, with remissions in repayments for each baby. . The scheme, which will be submitted to the Government after consideration by the National Life League, provides for cash vouchers at marriage for the purchase of furniture _ and so on, the repayable amount being reduced by one-quarter for each baby. The proposed loans would be extended to all whose income was less than £4OO, provided the bride was under 35. The president of the league (Dr Frederick McCann) says that the scheme is similar to one in operation in Germany. , , , “Recent events have proved that the best guarantee of peace is a wellpopulated, armed Britain,” he said.
