MIGRANTS WARNED TO BEHAVE
CONDUCT OF JEWS ON WAY TO AUSTRALIA (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received October 24 4 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 24. The Commonwealth Minister for the Interior (Mr John McEwan) today warned immigrants that they must behave, whether on ship or on shore, otherwise they were liable to summary exclusion.
Mr McEwan was referring to the alleged misconduct of a batch of Jewish migrants who arrived in the Aorangi on Saturday and who, according to stewards, were quarrelsome, complaining and insulting. The chief complaint by second-class refugees was being barred from the first-class portion of the ship, after which their conduct was overbearing.
