POLICE SEARCH FOR MOTORIST

MAN DIES FROM INJURIES

(United Press Association)

HASTINGS, October 24.

An inquest into the death of Lambert Emanuel Berggren, of Femhill, who died in the Memorial Hospital at Hastings on Friday afternoon from head wounds suffered when he was apparently struck by a motor-car on Thursday night, was opened in Hastings before Mr G. Ebbett, J.P., District Coroner, on Saturday. After formal evidence of identification had been taken the inquest was adjourned sine die. The Hastings police, who are making inquiries into Berggren’s death, believe he was struck by a car and are making every effort to trace the motorist. They have issued an appeal for every motorist who drove along the Omahu road near the Hastings Borough Council's rubbish dump between 7.45 o’clock and 8 o’clock on Thursday night to report at the police station. They are also appealing for everyone who saw Berggren walking in this area to report. From information available it appears that Berggren rested in a shelter in front of the Memorial Hospital and then walked about 100 yards in the direction of Fernhill with a hospital gardener James Spencer. He was found lying by the side of the road about a miie from this place.
