Mrs Marshall Lloyd, with her children, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs John Gilkison, Alice street, will leave on Wednesday for Auckland where she joins the Tamaroa on her return journey to Wales. A successful function took place in Elmwood Garden last night when the Cabaret Club held a gala night. WEDDINGS BURKE—EVERETT The quiet wedding took dace in St. Mary’s Basilica, Tyne street, recently of Hetty, sixth daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Everett, Waimatua, and James William, second son of Mr and Mrs J. McKay performed the ceremony. , . ; The bride .entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr Charles Everett She wore a gown of white lizard patterned satin taffetas, made with a slight flare and trimmed with small buttons. Her white veil fell' from a halo of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of white flowers. Miss Hilda Evans was bridesmaid. She wore a frock of pale pink georgette and carried a bouquet of pink flowers. Mr J. E. Burke, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The reception, which was given , by the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs J; Smith, was held at her home Teviot street.

For travelling the bride wore a navy coat over a navy floral frock with a navy hat, relieved with white, and accessoiies to match. Mr and Mrs J. W. Burke will live in Waimatua.

RAILWAY STAFF HOLDS BALL FUNCTION AT TOKANUI The combined railway staff of Tokanui held its annual ball recently in the Tokanui Hall. The stage was decorated with greenery, streamers, a “wig-wag” crossing signal and engine complete with lights. The hall was decorated with red, green and white streamers and balloons. Mr Wilson was master of ceremonies. -Among those present were Mr and Mrs Wilson, Mr and Mrs Dawson, Mr and Mrs Heatherington, Mr and Mrs Dowling, Mr and Mrs Howie. Mr and Mrs C. Miss Anne Ferguson, Lee street, is the guest of Mrs Johnston, Waikaka Valley. On Tuesday afternoon the committee of the Bluff Plunket Society held a meeting. Mrs E. A. Nichol presided, ft was decided that the next card evening would be the last for the year. A vote’of thanks was passed to the members and supporters. Messrs Charles Trim, P. Linton Hodge and H Moody will conduct a community sing for the society in the Town Hall on Thursday, October 20. Mrs J Thomson was elected a member of the committee. Those present were Mesdames E. A.
