PLACING FIT MEN IN WORK
POSITION DISCUSSED BY MINISTER (United Press Association) [ WELLINGTON, October 7. Interviewed about a statement that hundreds of fit men were registered at Auckland and were without work the ■ Minister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. i Armstrong) stated that men eligible for : assistance from the employment pro- ; motion fund were being placed as > rapidly as they registered at the ; bureau. This morning only 20 eligible fit men were awaiting work, and ar- ■ rangements had been made for them I to begin on Monday. ] ! Mr Armstrong repeated that the . Government was prepared to find emi ployment for all physically fit and ’ eligible men, but it could not, of course, bring work to the applicants’ back ’ door- _________
