OIL PROSPECTING IN NEW ZEALAND

MINISTER PLEASED WITH PROGRESS (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 7. “I am delighted with the skill, enterprise and determination displayed by the companies engaged in the search for oil,” stated the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) at New Plymouth tonight. “They are conducting the most thorough and extensive prospect this country has seen in a proper and scientific manner.” Mr Webb said that geophysical and geological surveys were taking place in almost every licensed area. It would be some time before the survey could be finished, especially that of new country. A definite start with drilling was expected to be made in the Gisborne area next week. “With modern equipment progress should be rapid,” said the Minister. “With reasonable luck the drill will be completed in November.”
