PROPOSED RABBIT BOARD

MEETING OF FARMERS AT ORAWIA A meeting of farmers to consider the formation of a rabbit board in. the Orawia district was held at Orawia. Mr E. K. Sim presided over an attendance of about 60. Messrs O. O. Mackley and H. Rowntree, inspectors of stock, attended the meeting, and Messrs . C. Donald, chairman of the New River Hundred Rabbit Board, and Mr D. Macpherson, a member of the board, were preseht by invitation. Mr Mackley outlined the procedure to be followed in the formation of a board and its functions.

Messrs Donald and Macpherson explained the benefits to be gained from the working of & board and quoted their experience in the Waianiwa district.

After considerable discussion it was decided to define an area and to meet again in three weeks’ time to make a decision whether to form a board. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs Donald, Macpherson, Mackley and Rowntree.

A petition in favour of forming a rabbit board in the Orepuki district, embracing an area of about 58,000 acres from Pahia to the Waiau river, has been in circulation for some time. It is understood that no difficulty has been experienced in obtaining the required number of signatures.
