CHILD DROWNED AT LUMSDEN

FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN DRAIN An infant aged two years, the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Reginald Keown, of Lumsden, was drowned early last evening. The child had been playing by himself and was found by an older brother lying unconscious in a drain. He was taken into a neighbour’s place where Dr E. C. Brown tried artificial respiration for more than an hour, but without success. An inquest will be held. TRUCK DRIVER GRAVELY INJURED (United Press Association) WHANGAREI, September 9. Edward Davis, aged 25, single, was seriously injured when a truck which he was driving collided with a train at a level crossing this afternoon. He is in hospital where his condition is reported to be grave.
