POSITION FOUND FOR ALL BLACK

J. L. SULLIVAN MAY COME TO INVERCARGILL

There is every possibility'that J. L. Sullivan, the Taranaki and All Black five-eighths, will come to Invercargill to live. ' ... He also played in all three Tests against the Springboks last year. He would be a welcome acquisition to Southland Rugby. SULLIVAN FINISHED FOR SEASON STRAINED LEG MUSCLE (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, September 9. J. L. Sullivan, the well-known Taranaki All Black, will not play for the rest of the Rugby season because of a strained leg muscle. The injury, which was first suffered in Australia, became wprse after the recent Ranfurly Shield match against Otago. The Taranaki team to play Canterbury tomorrow is as follows:—Toro, Wetton, Meuli, Pepperill, Neilson, Brown, Arnold, Joyce, Fowler (captain), Walker, Young, Venton, Cotdl, McLean and Whittaker. WAKATIPU SUB-UNION SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT ON SEPTEMBER 24 At a meeting of the Wakatipu District Football Sub-Union Mr W. H. James presided over a full attendance of members. It was decided to write to Mr J. L. Lindsay asking him for any rules or conditions he required governing the cup he had given for competition.. It was also decided to write to the Vincent District Football Sub-Union advising it about the cup and also the rules governing the games for the cup. It Was decided that the challenge match between Arrowtown and Country on September 17 be accepted and that the game should begin at 2.30 p.m.

A seven-a-side tournament was arranged to be played on September 24. The Queenstown Club’s application to travel to Lumsden on September 24 was declined. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CHARITY CUP REPLAY The weekly meeting of the Southland Football Association was held last evening, those present being Messrs O’Rorke (president), Donaldson, Johnson, Gray, Stewart, McKinnon, McMurdo, Waiuclin and Stewart. The replay for the Charity Cup was fixed for September 17 at Mataura. The Thistle delegates contended that the game should be played in Invercargill and there was a heated discussion on the point. Mr Johnson called attention to the language of spectators at Saturday's, game and requested delegates to report to their respective clubs. A carnival committee was formed for a meeting in October.
