Air Mail Service To Australia PROMPT DELIVERY IN CAPITALS (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received June 29, 11.25 p.m.) CANBERRA, June 29. Speaking to the second reading of the Bill to ratify and authorize the air mail agreements with the United Kingdom Government, the Minister of Defence (Mr H. V. C. Thorby) furnished details of the Empire air mail flyingboat service. He said all the mail posted inside Australia would carry a surcharge of 3d a half-ounce, which was 1/1 less than the present rate. The whole of the incoming air mail would be delivered in each capital city on the second afternoon after the arrival' of the flying-boats at Darwin. No night flying would be necessary. The initial stages of the service between Southampton and Sydney would occupy nine and a-half days, which would be progressively reduced to seven and a-half days. The Australian Government would control the section between Singapore and Sydney.
