TROTTING DATES CLASH

Wyndham and Timaru Clubs CIRCUIT FOR MEETINGS FAVOURED At a meeting of the committee of the Invercargill Trotting Club last evening the Wyndham Trotting Club advised that it had applied for March 11 as the date for its annual fixture next season. It also pointed out that the Timaru Trotting Club had applied for the same date for its meeting, and although the Timaru Club had previously raced on this date the Wyndham Club had lodged an objection against it. It was pointed out that the Wyndham Club desired to race on the Saturday following the Invercargill Trotting Club’s meeting. At present Timaru raced a week after Invercargill and Wyndham the following Saturday. If Wyndham was permitted to race on March 11 and Timaru the following Saturday this would not interrupt the circuit. If the present dates were adhered to Southland horses could not be expected to travel to Timaru after racing at Invercargill and then return to Wyndham, and the same could be said for northern horses taking part at the Invercargill meeting. Members expressed the opinion that if an Invercargill-Wyndham-Timaru circuit could be secured it would be in the best interests of all clubs concerned. It was decided to support the Wyndham Club’s application. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the club on Thursday, July 28. TROTTING DELEGATES CONFER CONFERENCE REMITS AND RULES DISCUSSED At a meeting of representatives of Southland trotting clubs at Invercargill last evening, there were present: Messrs Williamson and R. S. Green (Gore), J. B. Thomson,,W. Grieve and J. E. Cuthill (Invercargill), J. O’Shannessey, W. G. Clark and H. A. Pierce (Winton) and J. Hunter (Wyndham). It was also resolved to adhere to the past policy of restricting complimentary A draft of the new rules and the remits to come before the annual conference were considered and agreement was reached on various questions to come forward. The wishes of the clubs on the various points were made known by their representatives. It was left to clubs to decide on the system of betting for their respective meetings.

TROTTING ITEMS MR BARTON’S HORSES WIN £4650 INDIANAPOLIS EARNINGS MORE THAN £lO,OOO The three-year-old trotter Paying Guest, winner of the New Zealand Trotting Stakes is on the easy list ana is unlikely to be taken up again for some time. Dunedin Owned The Wrack-Pearlie Chimes two-year-old, owned by the Dunedin sportsman, Mr J. Richardson, is now a member of V. Leeming’s team. Back in Work The American-bred horse Fremont is reported to be back in work. Racing on unsuitable tracks is given as the reason for his failure in recent starts. Another for Australia

Matunga is the latest New Zealand purchase for Australia and he is to be shipped to the Commonwealth in the near future. The Travis Axworthy trotter was purchased through the same agency as Rustle, a recent winner in Perth. Another Chance

Regal has been solidly backed in several of his races, but a poor beginning each time has cost him a good winning chance. He has plenty of ability but little idea of hitting his straps correctly. He is engaged at Ashburton today.

Mr G. J. Barton’s Winnings Mr G. J. Barton’s trotting team has won £4650 this season. This is only half the stable’s record of £8270 last year, but it brings the aggregate for 13 seasons up to £74,820. Indianapolis won only £415, but this was sufficient to put him in the five-figure class with £10,432. The best money-earner in the stable this year was Tempest (who recently departed for Australia), who collected £1295.

Wide Choice R. B. Berry is training 14 rising two-year-olds, so that he will have ample material on which to work next season. It will be surprising if he does not again secure a large share of classic honours for his stable, as all are fashionably bred. Berry’s champion pair, Parisienne and Lucky Jack, are in light exercise and they are to appear again in August.
