THE WEATHER CLOUDY TO OVERCAST
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, June 17. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-west to westerly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, with occasional rain. Temperatures milder. Seas, rather rough to rough, especially in western areas. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair to fine, but clouding over in western and southern districts of the South Island, with scattered rains developing and extending gradually northwards over western districts. Some frosts probable tonight, but temperatures generally milder. General Situation.—Pressure is relatively high over the North Island, but is falling in the south under the influence of the first of a series of shallow westerly depressions, which is advancing across the south Tasman Sea. Winds.—Light to moderate and variable with northerlies predominating over the South Island; later, northerlies becoming general and freshening about and south of Cook Strait Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough about Foveaux Strait. Elsewhere, slight to moderate, but later rising in the Cook Strait area. Eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate and variable winds with north-westerlies predominating and freshening somewhat in the southern portion.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was again frosty and clear.
At one o’clock this morning the weather was clear and cool, and there was no wind. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (falling) 29.46 in Friday 29.76 in Thursday 39.96 in
