DUTCHMAN SEEING THE WORLD
ARRIVAL IN DOMINION IN NATIONAL DRESS ' (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. Picturesquely attired in the traditional Dutch peasaht costume of peakless cap, embroidered shirt, close-fit-ting jacket and voluminous trousers, Mr L. Bleekrode, perfume manufacturer from Amsterdam, Holland, arrived in Wellington today by the Awatea. He said he was making a world tour and intended to spend six weeks in New Zealand. Mr Bleekrode said that for four years he had been wandering round the world and had visited most of tha countries of Europe, as well as Africa, India, the Dutch East Indies and Australia. He was interested in the manufacture of floral perfumes. Holland was the country of flowers. “In tulip-time it is the most wonderful thing you ever saw in your life,” he said. “The countryside is as flat as a billiard-table, you know, and it is just a great garden of flowers for miles and miles and miles.” Asked whether he always affected the Dutch national costume, he said he usually dressed in the normal way when he was in cities and towns. However, he was greatly attached to the colourful garb of his country.
