QUEENSLAND TURF CLUB’S MEETING (Received May 2, 9.40 p.m.) BRISBANE, May 2. ■ At the Queensland Turf Club’s meeting the principal event resulted:— BRISBANE CUP, £3OOO and cup valued at £lOO. Two miles. Spear Chief, 8.3 (McCarten) 1 Princess Rivoli, 7.2 (Harvey) 2 Spear Bleu, 7.12 (Brown) 3 Nine started, including Mananui. Won by a length and a-half, third .a head away. Time, 2.283. STABLE HA&DS FORM NEW UNION MOVE FOR BETTER WAGES IN CANTERBURY (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. Stable hands in racing and trotting stables in Canterbury have formed a union which has been registered as the Canterbury Racing and Trotting Stable Hands’ Industrial Union. This is the first union of its kind formed in New Zealand but it is expected that workers in other centres will follow the lead given by Canterbury. Better wages and improved living conditions are two of the main aims of the union. It is stated that no exorbitant demands will be made and it is also considered likely that an agreement will be reached without much trouble.
