WRESTLING

BLOMFIELD BEATEN BY CANADIAN (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 2. The New Zealand wrestling champion, Lofty Blomfield, suffered his first defeat since his return from America at the hands of Pat Fraley, the Canadian cowboy, in a match which drew a capacity house to the Town Hall tonight. No falls were registered during eight eight-minute rounds and the decision in favour of Fraley was given on points. The Canadian made his second appearance in Auckland and New Zealand. He had previously defeated Joe Tonti here. There was no doubt about Fraley’s superiority in tonight’s match as it was clear frcm the outset that he had Blomfield worried by his ability to vary his method of attack.

KENNEDY BEATS MOEN IN / ROUGH BOUT

WELLINGTON, May 2.

In the roughest wrestling match seen in the Town Hall at Wellington since the Blomfield-Forsgren bout of two winters ago, Andy Moen beat Jack Kennedy on points, falls being even. The referee was constantly warning the two professionals for infringements and at one time stopped the bout and threatened to give the penalty against the next to transgress. Kennedy took a fall with drop-kicks in the sixth round, Moen one with a dump in the seventh, arid the last round went in Moen’s favour. After the contest, Moen had to have his lip sewn up where Kennedy had jolted it, and Kennedy was taken to hospital to have his arm X-rayed for a suspected fracture.
