CITY BUILDING SOLD

COLONIAL MUTUAL TO OCCUPY H.B. BLOCK PURCHASE PRICE NOT DISCLOSED The Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society has purchased the freehold of Hallenstein’s Buildings on the corner of Dee and Esk streets. The sale price has not been disclosed. The society intends to renovate the premises completely and to provide modem office accommodation. The manager for New Zealand for the society (Mr R. B. Ashe), who has been in Invercargill for the last few days, states that the growth of business in Southland during the past few years, has made it necessary to secure more commodious premises, and the purchase follows out the society’s practice, wherever possible, of investing funds in the centres in which they have been subscribed. This gesture towards Southland indicates the society’s confidence in the commercial soundness of Southland and alleviates the drift of local capital to North Island or other centres.

The local manager for the society is Mr G. S. McGavock.
