MATAURA PRESENTATION FROM CHURCH CHOIR ORGANIST’S DEPARTURE Members of the Mataura Presbyterian Church and office-bearers met in the church hall to bid farewell to the organist, Mr Rowland Baker, who has accepted the position of electrical inspector at Leeston, Canterbury. Mr A. Gourley, on behalf of the choir, expressed regret at Mr Baker’s departure from Mataura, and presented him with a reading lamp and a box of cutlery. Other speakers were the Rev. C. A. Kennedy, Mr A. N. Mac Gibbon and Messrs W. Piercey and John Irwin. Items were given by Mesdames MacGibbon, Russell and Ingram and by Mr A. Gourley. RIFLE-SHOOTING The Mataura Defence Rifle Club held the third shoot for the R.S.A. Cup. The ranges fired over were 300 and 600 yards. A bright light made conditions difficult, especially at the 600 yards range. The shooting was well below the usual standard, the highest scorer off the rifle being J. Munro, with 91.

GIFT EVENING Members of the Mataura Ladies’ Hockey Club entertained Miss L. Renshaw, who is shortly to be married. A dance was held and items were contributed by Misses N. Swale and Abey (Christchurch) and Mr J. Hardie, Christchurch. The music for the dance was played by Misses Monaghan, Smith and Barclay, Mrs L. Johnston and Mr A. Meikle. Mr A. Webb was master of ceremonies. Mr A. Marshall, president of the club, referred to Miss Renshaw’s qualities and asked her to accept a collection of gifts. A further presentation, on behalf of the Ladies Cricket Club, was made by the president, Mr J. H. Clark. On behalf of Miss Renshaw, Mr R. English replied. GORE GOLF The members of the Gore Golf Club played a Stableford match on the Croydon links in ideal conditions. The best cards returned were:—

GLENHAM COMING-OF-AGE PARTY A coming-of-age party was held in honour of Mr Albert John Rabbidge in the Glenham Public Hall. Dancing was held, music being played by Messrs W. Brown (piano) and Gordon McEwan (violin). Messrs B. Robinson and R. J. Irwin, jun., were floormasters. Several novelty dances were held during the evening, and the prize-winners in. these were as follows: Monte Carlo waltz, Mrs A. Melvin and Mr Robert Shaw (Glenham) ; lucky spot waltz, Miss Maisie Frame and Mr Cecil Frame (Mimihau); statue dance, Miss Dorothy Bennie and Mr A. McKay (Glenham). The following items were contributed: Vocal solos, Mrs A. Ferguson (South Wyndham); mouth organ solos, Master lan Ferguson; bagpipe solos, Mr A. Johnston (Glenham). Mrs Rabbidge was hostess for supper. Mr E. J. Rabbidge presented the guest with a key. Mr A. Ferguson, on behalf of those present, congratulated Mr Rabbidge on having attained his majority. Mr R. J. Irwin, jun., presented the guest with a gold wristlet watch and a fountan pen and Mr Alex. McKay (Glenham) also spoke.
