INTOXICATION CHARGE AGAINST DRIVER
BLACKSMITH FINED £5O (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 12. “In spite of a previous conviction and the cancellation of your licence for three years, you took charge of this vehicle yesterday. It is quite a serious matter,” said Mr W. R. McKean S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, in fining Luke Earl Stewart, aged 51, a blacksmith, £5O, in default a month’s imprisonment for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of his motor-truck in Federal street yesterday afternoon. Stewart pleaded not guilty, his counsel contending that he was awaiting the return of his driver when the brakes gave way and the truck ran on to the tram line.
