QUEEN OF DENMARK SERIOUSLY ILL
ABDOMINAL OPERATION AFTER RUSH TO HOSPITAL LONDON, January 10. Queen Alexandrine of _ Denmark, who is 58 years old, is seriously ill, after an abdominal operation. Her Majesty was hurriedly admitted to hospital yesterday, the operation being performed subsequently. The Copenhagen correspondent of The Times in a late message says that the condition of Queen Alexandrine continues to be satisfactory, but King Christian has cancelled all court engagements, including a Court ball at the end of January.
Queen Alexandrine of Denmark Is the daughter of the Grand Duke Friedrlck Franz 111 of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and his wife, the Grand Duchess Anastasia, of Russia. In April 1898 a year before her father’s death, she married the Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, who came to the throne in May 1912. They have two sons, the Crown Prince Frederick, who married Princess Ingrid of Sweden, and Prlpce Knud. Queen Alexandrine, thanks to her kindly disposition and her devotion to welfare work, is very popular. In her later years the Queen has been subject internal trouble. While at Skagen In September 1937 with the King and the former Crown Princess Cecllle she was taken ill and an operation had to be performed.
