DOMINION CHESS CONGRESS
FIRST ROUND RESULTS (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 27. The forty-seventh annual congress of the New Zealand Chess Association began this morning when the official opening was performed by Mr J. J. Marlow, president of the association. Thirteen players are competing for the championship and eight in the premier reserve event. Results of the first round: Burry (Auckland) beat Lang (Otago), Hindin (Canterbury) beat McDermid (Otago), Lynch (Hastings) drew with Severne (Wellington), Dunlop (Otago) drew with Erskine (Southland), Newtek (Auckland) v. Bolton (Napier) unfinished, Kelling (Wellington) v. Hunter (Canterbury) unfinished, McNab (Nelson) a bye. Premier reserve championship.—J. Lang (Otago) beat H. Hewitt (Otago), A. Turner (Southland) beat Christensen (Palmerston North), Allen (Wellington) lost to Langley (Otago), Storry (Nelson) v. McMillan (Otago) unfinished. _____________
