That both Auckland and Wellington have plenty of promising cricket material was evident from the bright form shown at the Basin Reserve today, when the annual match for the Bradbin Cup was begun between junior teams representing the two provinces. The cup is confined to players under 21 years of age and Auckland has held the trophy for the past two years. Auckland had first use of an easy wicket and ran up the respectable total bf 259, a feature of which was a sound score of 111 not out by W. Snedden. He is a son of N. C. Snedden, who for many years played for Auckland and New Zealand with conspicuous success. His son promises to perpetuate an honoured cricketing name. The Wellington players distinguished themselves by brilliant ground fielding and accurate returns. The bowling was steady without being deadly. Wellington’s innings began at 3.20 p.m. and when stumps were drawn Wellington had a splendid start with 209 runs for three wickets. i NO PLAY IN PLUNKET ■SHIELD MATCH .....
