CHAMPIONSHIPS OF SOUTHLAND A. FORD WINS TITLE Shooting for the Southland Rifle Association championships was continued yesterday on the McNab range in ideal weather. A. Ford, of the Invercargill Club, kept his lead of the previous day and with a score of 45 at 600 yards finished five points ahead of his club mate, S. L. Wall, who took second place in the championship. S. L. Wall won the Sports Trust Cup for the grand aggregate, which includes the championship and senior match. W. T. Webb, of Mataura, scored two possibles at 500 yards and C. Blaikie, of Clinton, also scored a possible at 500 yards. President J. A. Munro, of Mataura, won the Veterans’ Cup with a score of 274 points, seven points behind the champion. The prizes were presented by the president of the association, Mr C. M. Wilson at the conclusion of the meeting as follows: Championship of Southland—A. Ford (Invercargill) 281. Grand Aggregate and Sports Trust Cup—S. L. Wall (Invercargill) 328 Veterans' Cup—President J. NORTH ISLAND TITLES (United Press Association) WANGANUI, December 27. The North Island rifle-shooting championships were decided here today

the following competitors tieing for first place in the championsnip each with a score of 190:— F. J. Soler (Wanganui), E. Farley (Wanganui), M. Jones (Wanganui), H. K. Smith (Opaki), E. M. Wright (Opaki). In the shoot-off Farley won the title and Smith, Soler, Wrigley, and Jones were runners-up in that order. The North Island teams match was won by the Wanganui No. 2 team with an aggregate score of 563. Wanganui No. 1 was second with 562; then came Opaki 560, and Rangitikei 555. The following other events were decided. TARANAKI MATCH, 500 yards.—M. Jones (Wanganui), F. J. Soler (Wanganui), K. Lumsden (Rangitikei), H. King (Opaki), and R. Benton (Ohato) each with a score of 50 divided the prize money for first place. WANGANUI MATCH, 300 yards.—D. Roots (Patea) 501, H. Brehaut (Okawa), I. Ford (Wanganui) and E. Farley (Wanganui) each 49. HAWKE’S BAY MATCH, 600 yards. —F. Whitehead (Cheltenham) 49 1, J. W. Curtain (Opaki) 48 2, E. Farley (Wanganui) 48 3.
