ANGLICAN CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL PRIZES PRESENTED The annual tea and prize-giving ceremony of the Sunday School of St. Mary’s Anglican Church was held in the grounds of the vicarage, about 30 children and a number of parents and friends being present. The children played games on the lawn, and after tea a short concert programme was presented as follows: Junior pupils, nursery rhymes, recitations and a short play, “The Woodcutter Wins”; senior pupils, songs. Before presenting the prizes, the vicar (the Rev. F. C. Lawrence) thanked the teachers for their loyal services during the year. He made special mention of Master Wilfred Harley, who had supervised the whole of the production of the play presented by the junior pupils. Prizes were theft, presented to the following junior children: Joan Barnett, Cecil Dimmock, Murray Bennetto and Eunice Jefferis. The senior children who gained attendance prizes were: Jill Je&ris, Ngaire Peacock, Lavinia Peacock and Daphne Lawrence. These four girls also received prizes for knowledge of the catechism, as shown in the annual examination.

Mrs N. H. Jefferis, who is leaving the district, was presented with a copy of Paterson Smyth’s “People’s Life of Christ.”

The children’s night of the Wyndham and District Scottish Society was held in the Masonic Social Hall. On the stage, which was decorated with flowers and greenery, was a big Christmas tree, laden with presents. Mr D. N. A. Macpherson, the chief, supported by Chieftain Malcolm McLeod, was piped to the platform by Piper W. McLeod. The items given by juvenile performers were as follows:—Opening chorus, children; recitation, Violet Henderson; vocal duet, Joyce and Dorothy Young; pianoforte solo, Greta Tangney; Highland fling, Zilda Bell (Edendale); vocal solo, Mary Cook; pianoforte solo, Grace Bain; recitation, lan McDonald; chorus, Joyce Allison, Shirley Macpherson, Dorothy Young, Lance Cormack and Brian Wilson; tap dance, Sylvia Flaus (Invercargill); quartette, Greta Tangney, Joyce Young, Joan Mclvor, Ailsa Allison; recitation, Sheila Sinclair (Menzies Ferry); pianoforte solo, Gwen Cochrane; song and dance duo, Winnie Henderson and Thelma Stewart; pianoforte solo, Ruby Frame; vocal solos, Garth Niederer; pianoforte solo, Audrey Pauli; sword dance, Zilda Bell; chorus, children; tap dance, Sylvia Flaus.
