COMPETITION IN CENTRAL DISTRICT In the Central District tennis competition, Winton A beat Winton B by 12 sets to four. Results, with Winton A names firstmentioned, are as follows: — Women’s Singles.—Miss B. Andrews beat Miss Newman, 7-3; Miss M. Tilley beat Mrs Kindly, 7-3; Miss B. Walker beat Mrs Denny, 7-5; Miss Shaw beat Miss Davie, 7-6. Women’s Doubles.—Misses Andrews and Tilley beat Miss Newman and Mrs Kindly, 7-5; Misses Walker and Shaw lost to Mrs Denny and Miss Davie, 6-7. Men’s Singles.—R. Horsburgh beat L. Pearce, 9-1; I. McDougall beat J. Stenhouse, 9-6; R. Thornbury beat R. Goodall, 9-7; M. McDowall beat W. Jamieson, 9-4. Men’s Doubles.—Horsburgh and McDougall lost to Pearce and Stenhouse, 8-9; Thornbury and McDowall beat Goodall and Jamieson, 9-5. Mixed Doubles.—Horsburgh and Miss Andrews lost to Pearce and Miss Newman, 6-7; McDougall and Miss Tilley lost to Stenhouse and Mrs Kindly, 4-7; Thornbury and Miss Walker beat Goodall and Mrs Denny, 7-6; McDowall and Miss Shaw beat Jamieson and Miss Davie, 7-6. MENZIES FERRY BEATS TUTURAU A match was played between the Menzies Ferry and Tuturau tennis teams on the Menzies Ferry courts, the home team winning narrowly by four sets and 29 games to four sets and 28 games. Following are the detailed scores, with Menzies Ferry players’ names appearing first:— Men’s Doubles.—J. Matheson and W. Baird lost to L. G. Townsend and R. Patrick, 0-5; R. Evans and V. B. Foxon beat Patrick and Blair, 5-0.

Women’s Doubles.—Misses M. Newman and N. Hamilton lost to Misses R. Blair and M. Adam, 3-5; Miss J. Henderson and Mrs W. G. Bulling beat Misses J. Adam and M. Adam, 5-4. Combined Doubles.—J. Matheson and Mrs W. G. Bulling lost to L. G. Townsend and Miss J. Adam, 4-5; W. Baird and Miss N. Hamilton beat R. Patrick and Miss R. Blair, 5-0; R. Evans and Miss J. Henderson lost to R.
