WYNDHAM

The weather was beautifully fine for the annual break-up and prize-giving ceremony and picnic and sports of the Wyndham District High School. There was a big attendance of parents and children at the school grounds in the morning, Mr Lance Harper, chairman of the school committee, presiding. The chairman of the Southland Education Board (Mr S. Rice) addressed the children and presented the prizes. Mr Rice said that children were sent to school not only to learn how to read and write, but to learn how to be selfreliant, courageous and kind and how to be useful citizens in their adult life. It was necessary to have a thorough grounding in all school subjects if one was to be successful in these days. PRIMARY SCHOOL Dux of Primary Department.— Douglas Allison. Form 2.—lan T.
