KILLED BY FALL OF EARTH
WORKER ON EAST COAST RAILWAY (United Press Association) GISBORNE, December 9. A fatal accident occurred on the East Coast railway works this morning, Herbert Good, aged 26, a married man with three children, being caught in a fall of earth. Good was empoyed at Earls camp and was working on the face of a cutting when the earth subsided. He ran into the cutting, but was overwhelmed. Forty men working in relays recovered the body after three hours. A companion, who was in danger from a landslide, escaped by diving into the heading which had been driven in the cutting. SHEARING WORKER INJURES SPINE Patrick Muir, 22 years old, of Lumsden, was admitted to the Southland Hospital last evening suffering from injuries to his spine caused when he fell on the steps of a shearing shed at Te Anau yesterday. Late last night he was reported to be progressing satisfactorily. OLD-AGE PENSIONER’S DEATH William Alfred Fisher, an old-age pensioner, 88 years old, was found dead in his hut at Grassmere on Wednesday evening. He had been in illhealth for a long time. He was found by a neighbour who called Constable Mcßae. The body was in a sitting position at a table with cuts on the right wrist and left forearm.
