£10,000,000 FOR HOUSING IN N.S.W.
STATE ADVANCES TO BUILDING SOCIETIES
SYDNEY, December 9. Advances totalling £19,000,000 to building societies for the erection of houses were announced by the Premier of New South Wales (Mr B. S. B. Stevens) during the second reading of the Housing Improvement. Bill in the Legislative Assembly. This total of the funds now made available by banks, assurance societies, ana other financial institutions might be doubled or even trebled within a few years, added Mr Stevens. . The Government’s housing policy envisaged 100,000 new homes in the next 10 years. The Government’s scheme would ensure steady employment for 80,000 workers in the building trades.
