FASCIST DANGER TO AMERICA

Government Leader Condemns Tactics

USE OF COMMUNISM AS EXCUSE

“NIGHTSHIRT LUNACY” IN ■» EUROPE A WARNING

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright)

(Received December 9, 7.55 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 9.

One of the most outspoken denunciations of Fascism so far voiced by any Government leader was made by the Secretary of the Interior (Mr Harold L. Ickes), speaking at a dinner.

“The moronic exhibitionism of the Ku-Klux-Klan has died down in the United States, but similar nightshirt lunacy has engulfed whole nations abroad,” said Mr Ickes.

“Men seeking to undermine democratic institutions in the United States employ the hollow excuse that they are stamping out Communism. It does not require much intelligence to see that such Communism may become the wooden horse within which ruthless Fascism may enter our gates. “The Fascists who are pretending to save the country from Communism would superimpose an equally dreadful Fascism. They are the real enemies of America.” LACK OF SYMPATHY WITH NAZIS AMERICAN AMBASSADOR TO BERLIN (Received December 9, 7.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 8. In addition to protesting about his Charge d’Affaires attending the Nazi rally at Nuremburg, Dr W. E. Dodd, who has resigned as United States Ambassador to Berlin, disclosed his lack of sympathy with the Nazi regime during speeches while he was on holiday in America, though it is not believed that Germany made any representations about them.
