THE WEATHER CHANGEABLE AND COOLER

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 9. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate fresh south-west to southerly winds. Weather changeable and cooler, with scattered showers at many places. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast: Weather becoming cloudy to overcast and rain developing in western and far southern districts and gradually becoming fairly general. Temperatures mild at first, but a cool change advancing later from the south.

General Situation.—The depression of yesterday has passed eastward, but another is now located over the central Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone of rather slifht intensity covers south-eastern Australia. Winds.—Light to moderate west to north-west prevailing from Canterbury and Westland northwards, and freshening in the Cook Strait area; elsewhere southerlies predominating ana southerlies becoming general within about 24 hours. Seas. —New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough in the Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait areas, but otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate northerly winds in the central and northern portions, but a change to moderate to fresh southerlies advancing from the west; seas slight to moderate.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was wet in the morning and fine in the afternoon. There were light showers during the afternoon and evening. The temperature was warm. At one o’clock this morning light misty rain fell, and a cool wind blew from the west. The barometer readings for the last three mornings are as follows:—
