MAGISTRATE’S COURT THURSDAY (Before Messrs R. Fisher and H. A. Price, J.P.s.) Hugh Anthony Parker, a showman, aged 26, was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, playing an instrument of gaining in a public place and stealing a cheque valued at £2O, the property of H. Conaghan. Mr D. L. Poppelwell appeared for accused, and Sergeant Abel conducted the case for the police. Accused was remanded for a week, bail being allowed at £5O, with two sureties of £25. MUSIC EXAMINATIONS Dr E. Markham Lee, of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (London) visited Gore yesterday and conducted pianoforte examinations. McMartin, who has been transferred to Hornby, was bidden farewell by the members of the Gore staff of the Railways Department. A pre-sentation-of a barometer, a fountain pen and a set of hair brushes was made. Mr H. W. Pascoe (stationmaster), in making the presentation, referred to Mr McMartin’s ability as a railwayman. Messrs B. A. Familton, R. O. Brebner, A. Thompson and J. C. Collins also spoke. Mr McMartin replied.
